Bushbuck Rock Valley - Ellisras Accommodation

Description:
Bushbuck Rock Valley is set in the magnificent Waterberg Mountains and offers affordable accommodation. The Reserve is located between the towns Vaalwater (60km) and Lephalale (Ellisras) (50km), and is en-route (R33)to Martins Drift (Botswana Border Crossing) (150km). The reserve is approximately 3 hours from north Pretoria and is in a ‘malaria-free’area.

The Bush Lodge:
The lodge is built deep in the bush, overlooking the Tamboti River gorge. This is an idyllic natural setting where you are surrounded by the Waterberg bushveld, which offers peace and tranquillity. The lodge is open to wildlife (not fenced) and is ideally placed for bird watching.

Kid Policy:
Kids go free in their parents room. We can provide stretcher camp beds for children at no further cost.

Who we cater for:
This lodge and accommodation setting is most suitable for couples or small groups that love the bush and nature. For those who want to get away from the busy city life and relax in the peace, tranquility and privacy of the Waterberg. Or for those who enjoy an outside lifestyle, and love traditional braai set under the stars.

Selt Catering Accommodation:
Rooms are either self contained (3 rooms) or share communal kitchen (2 rooms). There are 5 lodge rooms available for weekend guests, however there are 3 other rooms that can be used for group bookings, please enquire for information.

Rooms: Buffalo, Cheetah & Duiker Self contained rooms.
These rooms have en-suite shower room facilities, mini kitchen, private braai (bbq) boma and private balcony with table and chairs. These rooms are elevated for views over the river. The mini kitchen is partitioned from the rest of the bedroom, and contains kettle, toaster, two-hob hotplate, ¾ fridge, and crockery, cutlery for two people. There is a sink/ drainer located conveniently between the room and private braai boma, so it can be reached easily from both. Rooms have all bedding and towels provided and come with mosquito netting and fans. These rooms are great for people who love cooking outside, however the communal kitchen can be used if you need other cooking equipment (microwaves etc).

Rooms: Aardvark & Hippo
Shared communal kitchen facilities.
These rooms have en-suite shower room facilities, and private balcony with chairs. These rooms have views over the pool / river area. There is a large fully equipped communal kitchen and communal braai boma for use with these rooms. Rooms have all bedding and towels provided and come with fans.

Commual Kitchen:
A large communal kitchen is located centrally within the complex. This is available for use for Aardvark and Hippo rooms, but also can be used by guests in the self-contained rooms and is ideal for large groups. The kitchen comes with two large fridges, freezer, large full cooker / oven, 4 large industrial gas hobs, two microwaves, and all crockery, cutlery and serving equipment.

Communal Decking Area:
This large decking area, overlooking the pool, is for use by all guests. There is a large dining table (can sit 18 people), a small dining table, serving tables and comfortable sofas.

Communal Braai Area:
Located next to the pool, this boma can be used by guests in Aardvark and Hippo and also for large groups. There is a large central fire pit, three different braai grills and one large marble serving table.

Pool:
A non-heated splash pool is located centrally, overlooking the Tamboti river gorge, great for those hot summer days.

Enviroment:
The location of the lodge and reserve is in the bushveld, which is open canopy woodland. The area is also very rocky, so please bring suitable footwear, especially if you want to explore the reserve.
You can explore the reserve on foot, we are currently in the process of developing a network of trails. Four are currently finished and give you the opportunity to enjoy walking around the reserve.

Wildlife:
Bird and reptile life is very diverse, especially in summer. We have a vast array of different bird species which makes Bushbuck Rock Valley a must for any keen birdwatcher. We have plains antelope, most numerous and easy to see are Impala and Kudu, but we also have Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Oryx, Mountain Reedbuck, Bushbuck and Klipspringer. There are also wildlife viewing hides that may allow you to see some of the other animals.

No housekeping:
Please note, for maximum privacy for guests we do not provide housekeeping. Communal areas will be cleared of rubbish and tidied on a daily basis, but we do not have someone to clean rooms and provide a service for washing up in rooms. We provide towels in all rooms, however we will not change towels unless asked, to reduce impact on the environment.

Walking, Bird Watching, wildlife viewing from hides, self drive around reserve (part of the reserve is accessed only with permission, it is 4x4 and not always available for self drive), tree spotting on the Botanical Trail, night hide viewing (coming soon).

Guest to bring:
Please bring all food and soft / alcoholic drinks (towns are some 60km away)
Firewood (Firewood can be purchased from us in bundles or bring your own).
Torch is recommended. (We are in the bush, there is limited lighting around the lodge area at night, also summer storms frequently knock out the electricity).
Suitable footwear (if you want to walk in the bush)
4x4 vehicle is more suitable, especially to drive around the reserve, however salon cars are able to get to the reserve (17km of good gravel road) and also drive around part of the reserve.
